Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls

The Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report helps you identify bandwidth required in an IP network, let you calculate the maximum number of concurrent calls over a defined period, and analyze traffic patterns to determine changes needed to support VoIP.

Note: A definition of concurrent calls is that for any individual second of the day, the number of concurrent calls is the number of actual calls that were active at that time.

Formatting Options

Required Constraints Tab

At the Required Constraints tab, specify the date settings for the report.

For the Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report, you cannot specify time settings.

Additional Constraints Tab

At the Additional Constraints tab, the default constraints for a Traffic Analysis report are:

Originating Data Source Name
Facility Name
Trunk Group

Click the Add Additional Constraints list box to include more constraints in your search criteria.

Options Tab

At the Options tab, the options available will not be the same from one report type to another. Only those options that apply to the selected report will appear. The options available with the Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report are:

Show report parameters on 1st page: If you select this check box, then a header page for a report will be created. This page displays the options selected, filters, and other settings that went into making up the report.

Suppress Daily Detail: If you click this check box, the individual day statistics will not appear in the report.

Layout Tab

At the Layout tab, the options available will not be the same from one report type to another. Only those options that apply to the selected report will appear. The option available with a Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report is:

Summarize on this Level and Above: This list box contains a list of grouping levels. When you select a level, the report will summarize on that level and all levels above it. The level you choose collapses into a single summation line. The summarizing levels available with a Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report are:

Trunk Group
Originating Data Source Name
Facility Name
Extension Location

Report Details

The Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report contains the columns listed below:

Date: This column contains the date of the call.

Peak Busy Hour GMT: This column contains the hour in GMT within the day with the highest peak traffic. For example, if the calculation showed that at 10:04:34 AM 7 trunks were busy and during the rest of the day no more than 4 trunks were busy, then the Peak Busy Hour for the day would be shown as 10:00 AM.

Peak Busy Hour Local: This column contains the local time equivalent of Peak Busy Hour GMT.

# of Calls: This column contains the total number of calls active within the hour.

# of Minutes: This column contains the total number of minutes active within the hour formatted as HHHH:MM:SS.

Peak Concurrent Calls: This column contains the maximum number of concurrent calls within the hour. Using the example above, this column would show 7.

Notes on Time Zones

The Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report contains two columns – Peak Busy Hour GMT and Peak Busy Hour Local. The GMT column with the busy hour (the hour with the highest number of concurrent calls) is in GMT. In some cases, you may be able to fill in the peak busy hour for your local time for a particular section. The rules are:

If you selected Originating Data Source Name from the Summarize on This Level and Above list box at the Layout tab, the Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report will show the peak hour in the local time if all facilities in that data source are in the same time zone. In the summary total for the data source report, the peak hour will show in local time if all facilities in all data sources are in the same time zone.
If you selected Facility Name from the Summarize on This Level and Above list box at the Layout tab, the Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report will always be able to show the peak busy hour local in a facility section. This is because a facility is only in one time zone. In the summary total for the facility report, the peak hour will show in local time if ALL facilities for the report are in the same time zone.
If you selected Trunk Group from the Summarize on This Level and Above list box at the Layout tab, the Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report will always be able to show the peak busy hour local for a particular trunk group. This is because a trunk group can be only in a single time zone. In the summary total for the trunk group report, the peak hour will show if ALL trunk groups in the report share the same time zone.
If you selected Extension Location from the Summarize on This Level and Above list box at the Layout tab, the Traffic Analysis - Peak Concurrent Calls report will show the peak busy hour local for a particular extension location if all facilities for the data source assigned to that extension location are in the same time zone. If any facility in that data source is in a different time zone, the local time cannot be displayed because there is no way of knowing which facility was used for specific calls. In the summary section, if any data source assigned to any extension location on the report used a different time zone, the local peak will not display.
